Senia Interviews Tykoon CEO and Co-founder, Mark Bruinooge

Mark Bruinooge HeadShotWhen was Tykoon created?

Tykoon (http://tykoon.com) was created in April 2011.  We spent the first year building our ‘alpha’ product and testing with kids and families.  We opened our product to the public on April 18, 2012.

Was it your dream to do something like this?

Yes.  I love creating new products.  I have 2 boys (8 and 11 years old).  I love building something new that also impacts their lives in a good way.  They have fun using Tykoon and giving me new ideas on making it better and more fun.

Do you talk to schools?

We have not met with any schools yet.  However, we have been contacted by some teachers who like our product and want to use it with some of their students.

Can you play these games on the web?

Yes, Tykoon works on the web and you can also download the free iPhone app through Apple’s iTunes Store. When you are playing you earn ‘Tykoins’ for completing tasks, and compete with your friends and other kid Tykoons to reach the top of the leaderboard for awesome prizes like the iPad 2, iPad Mini, iPod Touch, Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3. Note: Prize contests activating December 17th.

Did you create this website because you want parents and kids to make really good choices?

We created Tykoon because we wanted to change the way kids think about and use money.  I think the next generation of kids have an amazing opportunity to use technology in new and exciting ways.  We hope Tykoon helps kids and their parents make better choices about money.
